POSITION SUMMARY
The Café Steward collaborates closely with the café management team to embody Copa Vida's unique hospitality approach for every visitor. This role encompasses all bar responsibilities, including drink preparation and ingredient batching according to company standards, while ensuring cleanliness and organization throughout the café. The ideal candidate is a dedicated team player capable of managing multiple tasks and excelling in a dynamic environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and practices
- Exhibit professionalism and teamwork consistently; strive to fulfill Copa Vida's core mission, competencies, and values, contributing to a positive atmosphere within the café
- Provide Copa Vida's standard of hospitality to every customer and follow established service protocols during all interactions
- Operate all bar stations, including espresso machines, registers, and barback roles
- Maintain a swift work pace to meet service demands and café objectives
- Achieve established quality and presentation standards, along with timely service
- Follow recipes, preparation methods, and standard operating procedures
- Promptly notify management of supply needs and shortages
- Receive, verify, and organize deliveries
- Execute opening, mid, and closing tasks thoroughly, accurately, and punctually
- Adhere to cleaning schedules and maintain sanitation throughout service
- Assist with running and bussing tasks as necessary
- Support staff training as directed
- Engage in ongoing training, including coaching and mentorship from leadership
- Arrive in uniform and prepared to work at the scheduled start of each shift
- Attend mandatory company meetings, training sessions, and events
- Maintain flexible availability to accommodate dynamic scheduling needs
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While executing the essential functions of this role, the employee is regularly required to:
- Regularly taste and assess coffee and tea
- Communicate, listen, and stand for extended periods
- Utilize close and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus
- Read food order tickets
- Reach, bend, stoop, kneel, shake, and stir
- Use sharp kitchen tools and equipment
- Climb and/or maintain balance
- Carry, push, and lift items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in a bustling café/kitchen setting. The role frequently utilizes various coffee and tea brewing equipment, grinders, sinks, dishwashers, and cooking tools, along with instruments for calibration and cleaning. Employees in this position are often exposed to hot liquids, potentially slippery surfaces, and cleaning agents. The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to loud.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional travel may be necessary for off-site meetings, training, and events.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 1 year of specialty coffee experience preferred
- A strong passion for hospitality
- Ability to taste and discern flavors to meet recipe and dialing requirements
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to remain composed, resilient, and effective at all times
- Flexibility to adapt to evolving demands and changes
- Proficiency in multi-tasking, prioritizing workload, and meeting deadlines with quality outcomes
- Ability to maintain flexible scheduling to meet the operational needs of the café
- Technical skills, including proficiency in operating Point of Sale (POS) systems
- Possession of a current food handler's card valid for the work location
