Christus Health is seeking a highly skilled Nurse Educator to join our team. As a key member of our Organizational Development department, you will play a critical role in assessing educational needs, developing curricula, and delivering high-quality educational programs to our nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities- Assess educational needs of clinical and non-clinical staff, and develop targeted curricula to meet those needs.
- Conduct research to obtain the most recent information on identified topics, and incorporate that information into educational programs.
- Deliver curricula to targeted groups, including instruction in theory and provision of clinical experience.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of curricula through analysis of class participation, feedback, and written tests.
- Participate in workshops designed for career advancement of nursing staff, and instruct staff of all levels in orientation and other programs.
- Supervise learning experiences of staff in programs, and act as a role model to nursing and healthcare staff by demonstrating and teaching professional behaviors.
- Participate in and deliver approved continuing education programs to enhance professional competence, and prepare and submit reports as required.
- Maintain records of those persons participating in educational programs, and protect human and civil rights of patients and/or clients and staff.
- May participate on committees and in recruitment process, and perform related duties as required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.
- Current New Mexico registered nurse license required.
- ANCC certification in Nursing Continuing Education/Staff Development preferred.
- BLS certification required, and BLS instructor certification highly recommended.
- Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of nursing in appropriate specialty serviced.
- Beginning knowledge of teaching, counseling, and evaluation principles and techniques.
- Basic leadership abilities.
- High degree of self-confidence, self-motivation, and detail-oriented.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently and as a team member, employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas.
- Must be able to read, interpret, and follow instructions.
- Must possess beginning computer, research, and data management skills.
- Basic understanding of regulatory body standards, New Mexico Board of Nursing, and Continuing Education Board requirements.
- Two years of teaching experience (teaching experience may be unit-based, clinical ladder-based, and does not necessarily include a teaching position) in nursing.
- Four years of experience as an RN in an acute care setting required.
This position requires intermittent physical effort, such as walking, standing, sitting, and those activities involved with patient care. Occasional pushing, pulling, and lifting may be required. Moving educational equipment and supplies as needed for classes is also required. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary.
