The Clinical Nurse I provides safe, effective, and individualized care using the nursing process. This role requires skills, problem-solving abilities, communication, effective working relationships, setting priorities, and demonstrated knowledge of standard operation policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Completes admission and ongoing patient assessment
- Ensures formulation of an individualized plan of care derived from assessment data
- Ensures appropriate documentation
- Performs duties as needed to prepare the preoperative patient for the Intraoperative experience
- Identifies, plans, and cares for the total needs of the patients, taking into consideration the age-specific needs of patients in assigned area of responsibility
- Makes appropriate and timely decisions in a crisis or emergency situation
- Works and communicates effectively with a variety of individuals
- Provides general direction, guidance, and coordination of patient care given by other levels of nursing staff
- Applies knowledge of standard operating policies and procedures
- Operates equipment correctly and safely necessary for providing patient care in Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois
- Three (3) years of nursing experience in an acute care or hospital setting
- One (1) year of nursing experience in Critical Care or PACU in an acute care hospital, level 1 trauma hospital, or teaching hospital
- Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire date
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university
- Two (2) years of Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nursing or Critical Care nursing experience
- Bilingual
- Knowledge of medicals and IV fluids and correct admission based on patient age and clinical condition
- Demonstrate competence in the safe and effective use of clinical equipment
- Demonstrate working knowledge of the current requirements of accrediting and regulatory agencies
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills necessary to a variety of people from different socio-economic backgrounds
- Strong emergency response skills
- Strong customer service and empathy skills
- Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict management/resolution skills
- Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy, and precision
- Ability to perform a pre-procedure assessment on all patients and reassessment during and post procedure
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to resolve complex patient/administration problems and research issues
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize projects and tasks
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged
- Ability to function autonomously and as a team member in a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to see and hear clearly (including with correction)
- Ability to tolerate exposure to unpleasant noise, odor, and temperature
- Ability to walk extensively, lift moderately heavy objects, and climb stairs
