The individual will coordinate care to ensure that high-quality, compassionate service is delivered to patients.Responsibilities include managing patient interactions at office locations and serving as a liaison with various organizations and departments.
This role may involve ordering medical, pharmacy, and office supplies necessary for patient care.Compliance with all policies and procedures of Mid Michigan Health, as well as adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations, is essential.
The individual will also coordinate training for new employees, students, and float staff as required.The clinical support person will provide patient education, assist with specialty care modalities, manage symptoms, be available for emergencies, monitor compliance, and educate patients and families about medications, including their purposes and potential side effects, while ensuring continuity of care with other providers.
General office duties such as keyboarding, filing, and operating office equipment may also be required. The specific responsibilities outlined in this job description may vary slightly based on the assigned practice. Your immediate supervisor will clarify your responsibilities.Key Responsibilities
(30%) Manage incoming calls, schedule urgent/emergent appointments, and relay test results. Provide support and direction to patients for consultations, testing, and insurance pre-certification documentation.
(30%) Welcome patients and families, perform routine pre-examination tasks including vital signs, and document both objective and subjective data regarding the presenting condition. Maintain accurate patient records through tasks such as orders reconciliation and secure messaging (if available). Conduct medication reconciliation, document allergy reactions, and process refills within the scope of certification.
(20%) Assist the provider during examinations and procedures.
(20%) Prepare and sanitize the patient area, set up necessary equipment, and ensure proper room setup post-procedure. Dispose of contaminated materials and sterilize medical instruments.
Additional Duties
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments as indicated within the practice scope.
Perform patient care tasks including injections, minor dressing changes, and blood specimen collection.
In certain practices, competency in assisting with procedures such as electrocardiograms (EKG), Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT), Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABI), and Non-stress Tests (NST) may be required.
Ensure a clean and safe environment for patients and colleagues.If applicable, travel to satellite clinics may be necessary.
Demonstrate proficiency in necessary computer functions in the office setting, including MAPS, MCIR Practice Management, Electronic Medical Records, LIS, Emageon, dictation systems, and other relevant programs to assist providers and staff.
Exhibit critical thinking skills for effective patient management.Maintain confidentiality and uphold patient rights in accordance with established procedures and HIPAA regulations.
May be required to perform clerical tasks such as completing insurance forms, correspondence, arranging hospital admissions, answering phones, and updating patient medical records.
Manage the ordering of supplies and medications.Ensure accurate documentation and coding in the medical record as per policy.
Participate in annual reviews for quality and completeness as necessary.
Address the age-specific needs of the population served in accordance with departmental standards and policies, as evidenced by observation, documentation, and peer feedback.

Certifications and Licensures
BLS - Basic Life Support
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 3 months of hire or transfer
Required Education
Education: Technical Certificate
Comments: Must be a graduate of a medical assistant program.
Preferred Certifications:
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or equivalent Medical Assistant Credential (e.g., Certified Clinical Medical Assistant CCMA).
Experience, Training, and Skills
Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with individuals and groups, allowing for clear and understandable exchange of ideas and concepts.
Annual Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training is mandatory as per the Exposure Control Plan.Knowledge of medical office policies, practices, and procedures is typically acquired through three to five years of experience in the healthcare system or a similar environment.
Previous experience in a physician clinic setting is preferred.Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions
Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials or appropriate substitutes as required for the position.
Must be able to move freely throughout the facility with or without an assistive device and perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing are necessary, with or without assistive devices.Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods may be required.
May necessitate frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.
Must adhere to Mid Michigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, collaborate with others, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and remain alert is essential.
Overall dexterity is required, including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling.Repetition of these movements may be necessary on a regular to frequent basis.

Light. Must be able to occasionally lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently handle 10 lbs., and/or engage in walking, standing, pushing, or pulling arm/leg controls.
