Machinists at TRAX International play a crucial role in the fabrication and repair of equipment, machines, and weapon systems. As a Machinist I, you will be responsible for interpreting verbal and written instructions, planning, and laying out work. You will use a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments to set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools. Your tasks will include machining and shaping metal parts to close tolerances, making standard shop computations, and selecting standard materials, parts, and equipment required for the work. You will also be responsible for fitting and assembling parts into mechanical equipment and machines, making all necessary adjustments to complete repairs. Additionally, you will provide iterative feedback to customers, share work progress and information with fellow machinists, and perform other duties as required to complete the assigned mission.
Responsibilities- Interpret verbal and written instructions and specifications
- Plan and lay out work
- Use machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools
- Machining and shaping metal parts to close tolerances
- Making standard shop computations
- Selecting standard materials, parts, and equipment required for the work
- Fitting and assembling parts into mechanical equipment and machines
- Making all necessary adjustments to complete repairs
- Providing iterative feedback to customers
- Sharing work progress and information with fellow machinists
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Machinist technical school degree/certificate or applicable military training or 2 years' experience working in a machine shop environment with CNC machines
- Work experience operating and using precision measuring instruments common to the trade
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret complex multi-view drawings
- Experience operating manual and CNC mills and lathes
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests
- Be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned
- Be capable of working in extreme weather conditions, including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit
- Be capable of lifting 100lbs unassisted
- Be capable of working in outdoor weather conditions
- Be capable of frequent squatting, crouching, and stooping
- Be capable of kneeling, bending, and standing while performing maintenance machinist duties
- Be able to speak, write, read, and understand English
- Have a well-mannered customer service attitude
- Be willing to cross-train in other areas
- Be able and willing to work overtime when required
- Use 'down-time' effectively to the benefit of test, self, and company
- Be punctual, responsible, and dependable
- Demonstrate motivation, initiative, and reliability
- Be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions
- Have a demonstrated ability to follow instructions and company policy
- Be able to deliver quality products to the customer and be responsive to their needs
- Be safety and security conscious, complying with rules and policies
- Be able to work both as part of a team and independently
- Be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed, sometimes on short notice, to support test missions
- Have a valid driver's license, without special restrictions
- Have dependable transportation and a dependable means of communication
