Position Overview
The role of the educator within the classroom setting encompasses two distinct salary classifications—Range 1 and Range 2. The primary responsibility of the educator is to meticulously plan, prepare, and deliver educational programs aimed at achieving defined student outcomes. The educator engages in ongoing reflection and inquiry to enhance their knowledge and skills, thereby effectively engaging students and fostering their academic growth.
As educators gain experience, their contributions to the school community extend beyond the classroom. All educators may be tasked with additional responsibilities beyond their scheduled teaching duties, provided these responsibilities align with their salary classification, qualifications, training, and experience.
Range 2 Educator
Educators classified at Range 2 play a pivotal role in supporting the school’s efforts to enhance student performance and educational outcomes as outlined in the school’s strategic plan and state-wide objectives. They contribute significantly to the formulation and execution of school policies and priorities.
A key aspect of this role involves enhancing the knowledge base of staff regarding student learning and high-quality instructional practices, assisting the school in defining exemplary teaching practices.
Expectations for Range 2 educators include:
- Possessing the content knowledge and pedagogical skills necessary to meet the diverse needs of all students.
- Demonstrating exemplary classroom practices and mentoring fellow educators to engage in reflective practices and enhance their professional capabilities.
- Providing expert guidance on content, processes, and strategies that will shape individual and collective professional development.
- Supervising and training one or more student teachers.
- Assisting colleagues in utilizing student data to inform instructional approaches aimed at achieving targets related to improved student learning outcomes.
Range 1 Educator
The primary focus for Range 1 educators is to further develop their skills and competencies to become effective classroom practitioners, supported by structured guidance from more experienced educators. They are responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering educational programs to achieve specific student outcomes. Range 1 educators teach various student groups and are accountable for the effective implementation of their programs. They operate under general supervision within established guidelines and may also oversee the training of one or more student teachers.
Range 1 educators participate in the development of school policies and programs, assisting in the implementation of school priorities. Their focus includes classroom management, subject content, and teaching methodologies. New educators entering the profession receive structured support, mentoring, and guidance from experienced colleagues.
Under supervision, new educators will plan and instruct student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to engage in induction programs and other professional development activities designed to integrate curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy across the school.
Range 1 educators are responsible for teaching their own classes and may also contribute to policy development, project teams, and the organization of extracurricular activities.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the educator may include, but are not limited to:
- Direct instruction of groups and individual students;
- Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum areas or other educational programs within the school;
- Performing other teaching-related and organizational duties as assigned by the School Principal;
- Participating in activities such as parent-teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions;
