Job Summary:

The Master Captain is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of towing vessels. This includes planning and implementing vessel assignments, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and evaluating and reporting results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure safe navigation of the vessel at all times.
  • Conduct required drills, training, and safety meetings, and maintain records as per company policy.
  • Conduct and ensure compliance with vessel maintenance and inspection requirements.
  • Inspect the vessel to ensure conformance with safety standards and maritime regulations.
  • Work closely with customers, pilots, and government agencies to ensure proper performance.
  • Ensure prompt and accurate reporting of equipment failures, illnesses, incidents, accidents, and damages.
  • Maintain current knowledge of maritime laws.
  • Direct and supervise crew members in safe and productive vessel operation.

Requirements:
  • Thorough knowledge of vessel handling and navigational skills.
  • Working knowledge of propulsion, auxiliary, and deck machinery.
  • Strong written and oral communicative skills.
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Ability to adapt to different schedules and hours.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • National Master 200 OC, NC, or Inland license.
  • 5 years of experience as a Master or Operating Mate on towing vessels.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Experience operating on the Columbia River and Snake River.
