KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Buildings & Grounds Director, this role is essential for upholding the cleanliness and sanitary standards of the facility, both internally and externally.

Engage with all individuals by using their names when possible, expressing gratitude when appropriate, and prioritizing relationship building at all times.

This position plays a crucial role in reflecting the mission, purpose, image, and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester.

Cleaning Duties:

  • Maintain cleanliness of bathrooms, offices, locker rooms, hallways, and other designated areas through vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks and repairs as directed.
  • Assist various departments with setup for meetings and special events.
  • During shutdown periods, availability for work is required if necessary.
  • Conduct restorative cleaning activities such as stripping and polishing floors and cleaning carpets.
  • Empty and sanitize trash receptacles.
  • Rearrange and dust furniture and fixtures as needed.
  • Clear snow and apply salt to sidewalks during inclement weather.
  • Report any damage or required repairs to the supervisor.

Operational Standards:

  • Utilize all cleaning supplies efficiently and correctly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all cleaning closets during scheduled shifts.
  • Interact with staff, members, and the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist with special projects at the branch or other Association facilities.
  • Respond to emergencies appropriately based on training and circumstances.
  • Attend all mandatory training sessions and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED. Equivalent work experience will be considered.

This position requires strong teamwork skills and the ability to work independently. Good communication skills and the ability to interact positively with others are essential.

Experience or ability to understand general cleaning practices, disinfection methods, hard floor care, carpet maintenance, and related equipment operation is necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand and move for extended periods.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in a typical environment with some exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
  • Mobility within the building, including movement between floors and outside.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • May handle human body fluids and chemicals as part of daily operations.

Salary: $15.50 per hour
