Role Overview

This role is accountable for managing the expense reporting functions within the SPDADFAD Controllers Group, focusing on both Personnel and Non-Personnel expenses, overseeing month-end closing activities, and facilitating Head Office reporting while collaborating with various internal departments within SMBC and its subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Director of Management Reporting, this role entails executing payroll reconciliations and adjustments to the general ledger. The Director will ensure that these tasks are performed effectively, enhancing existing processes and implementing robust controls related to payroll entries and reconciliations. Additionally, the Director will manage responsibilities associated with expense and budget oversight, including expense classification and accrual accounting. Positions at this level require a solid understanding of essential operational processes, with daily activities centered on administering established procedures, conducting analyses, and preparing reports in accordance with IFRS and U.S. GAAP standards. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to execute duties accurately and within designated timelines.

Required Qualifications and Skills

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting; an MS/MBA is advantageous. CPA certification is mandatory. A minimum of 10 years of relevant accounting experience is required. Candidates should be detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously, with strong analytical abilities. Proficient knowledge of financial reporting and general accounting principles (US GAAP, J-GAAP, IFRS) is essential. Familiarity with bank reconciliations and fixed asset accounting is preferred. Understanding of accounts payable vendor maintenance is a plus. Experience with general ledger operations and month-end/year-end closing procedures is necessary. Knowledge of Oracle Applications and/or other accounting software is beneficial. Advanced skills in Excel (including VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, etc.) are required. Experience in the financial services sector is advantageous but not mandatory.
