Archivist Job Description

At Certifiedarchivists, we are seeking a highly skilled Archivist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, arranging, describing, making accessible, and preserving permanent records and records of significant historical value to our organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement collection management policies and operating procedures for archives.
  • Collaborate with departments to accession records created in the regular course of business that demonstrate and document our history, growth, and change.
  • Oversee the cataloging and safekeeping of valuable materials through preservation initiatives and disaster planning.
  • Manage access to archives, enforcing policies and procedures and providing archival reference and research services.
  • Conduct collections research, documenting collections provenance and records institutional knowledge of collections.
  • Review, develop, implement, and maintain written policies and procedures.
  • Engage in outreach efforts including exhibits, training, and presentations.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in library science, history, or related discipline with a concentration in archival studies or archival courses.
  • A minimum of five years of experience working in archives.
  • Experience describing records according to the Society of American Archivists (SAA) approved standards outlined in Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).
  • Strong knowledge of archival metadata schemas and cataloging practices.
