Job Summary

A skilled Maintenance Mechanic I plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our manufacturing plant's equipment, working closely with Electrical staff to maintain and repair Printing Press and Book Binding equipment. This position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operates various machine tools, including lathes, mills, drill presses, and surface grinders, to manufacture replacement parts for mechanical press and bindery equipment.
  • Assists in the repairs and maintenance of mechanical press and bindery equipment, demonstrating a general working knowledge of relay logic and control circuits.
  • Troubleshoots and maintains programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and understands the workings of AC/DC motor controls.
  • Diagnoses issues with electrical components using testing equipment and has a strong understanding of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Maintains mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
  • Complies with OSHA regulations and company safety policies, monitoring for safety hazards and reporting any concerns.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years of field experience preferred
  • Intermediate Math and Computer Skills
  • Associates degree in Industrial Electronics preferred
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and adhere to all safety regulations and operating procedures.
Physical Requirements
  • Walking: Must be able to walk for extended periods, with some tasks requiring walking.
  • Standing: Must be able to stand for up to 11.5 hours/day, 3 to 4 days per week, on a concrete floor.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Must be able to frequently lift and carry signatures weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Must be able to occasionally push/pull skids of paper weighing over 100 lbs.
  • Bending/Twisting: Must be able to bend at the waist, flexing knees, and twist body to perform tasks such as working in folders and setting ink.
  • Climbing: Must be able to climb in, out, and around press equipment as needed.
  • Kneeling: Must be able to perform tasks in a kneeling position for various lengths of time.
  • Grasping/Reaching: Must be able to reach for and grasp signatures of varying thickness and weight.
  • Sitting: Some tasks allow for sitting, usually not for more than one hour/day.
