Grand View Hospital is seeking a skilled Patient Care Specialist to join our Emergency Department team. As a key member of our care team, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting our staff in providing a calm, caring, and clean environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist other members of the healthcare team to deliver safe, appropriate, and quality patient care.
  • Assist with or provide basic nursing care to help the nurse meet the activities of daily living for the patient.
  • Assist with patient mobility needs, including turning, positioning, transferring, and ambulation of patients as directed, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
  • Maintain a safe patient environment.
  • Respond to emergency situations within the scope of their training and perform under the direction of the nurse.
  • Perform vital signs, including use of automatic blood pressure machine as directed by nursing staff.
  • Provide basic skin care to prevent skin break down and maintain or improve skin integrity under the direction of the nurse.
  • Answer call bells and respond to patient requests within their scope or communicate patient needs to the nurse.
  • Transfer and move patients via wheelchair, bed, or stretcher to appropriate locations within the hospital.
  • Maintain open communication with department staff and accept direction to ensure a safe environment.
  • Understand and respect patients' rights to privacy and dignity in order to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Ensure that equipment and supplies considered essential are functional, safe, and readily accessible in order to provide a safe environment.
  • Perform department-specific maintenance duties as appropriate to department.
  • Act as a patient advocate to ensure safe, appropriate, and quality patient care.
  • Adhere to standards of practice for infection control and universal precautions.
  • Assist with communication between the Department Manager, House Supervisor, and unit staff regarding the 24-Hour Report, admissions, transfers, and bed availability to operationalize department activities.
  • Organize, maintain, and update departmental files and records in an accurate manner to provide for timely and efficient processing of information.
  • Copies and faxes records in a prompt manner according to established medical records policy in order to fulfill requests from appropriate sources.
  • Assume responsibility for ordering and restocking supplies necessary for efficient operation of the department within budgetary parameters.
Work Schedule:

Three 12-hour shifts, from 7:00 pm - 7:30 am, every third weekend and every other vacation.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/GED, required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), provided upon hire.
