The Individual Support Paraprofessional plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience for students with special needs. Department: Teaching and Learning
Supervision: Reports directly to the Classroom Teacher and School Building Administrator.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Monitoring: Act as a mandated reporter to safeguard the well-being of students.
- Instructional Support: Adapt classroom activities and materials under the guidance of the supervising teacher to align with instructional goals and IEP objectives.
- Assessment Assistance: Administer tests and manage homework assignments to support individual student needs.
- Personal Care: Provide assistance with personal hygiene and mobility, ensuring students' comfort and safety during transitions.
- Behavioral Monitoring: Collect and document behavioral and academic data as directed by the certified teacher.
- Group Facilitation: Support students in both individual and group settings, reinforcing learning concepts and promoting positive social interactions.
- Supervision: Oversee students during non-instructional times, such as arrival, dismissal, and lunch, fostering independence and engagement.
- Professional Development: Participate in training sessions to enhance skills related to special education practices and student support.
- Collaboration: Maintain effective communication with teachers and staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
Qualifications:
Education: A minimum of an Associate's Degree in a relevant field or 48 college credit hours from an accredited institution is required.
Certifications: Successful completion of the TN Para Pro Assessment is mandatory.
Experience: Previous experience working with children is preferred.
Skills: Candidates should demonstrate strong communication abilities, adaptability, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality. Proficiency in basic computer skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential.
Physical Demands: The role may require lifting and assisting students, necessitating physical stamina and dexterity.
Work Environment: The position involves working in various educational settings, necessitating a flexible approach to diverse situations.
