Job Description

**Overview**

Bruker OST is a leading manufacturer of highly specialized, engineered superconducting materials for the healthcare industry. We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Advanced Materials and Technology to lead our new superconductor product development efforts, supplier development projects, and new product introductions.

**Responsibilities**

  • **Strategic Planning:** Prioritize and lead technology and product development programs in low-temperature superconductor Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn systems.
  • **Customer and Supplier Interface:** Interface with customers and suppliers to build relationships and resolve technical issues related to the manufacturing, cost, and use of our products.
  • **Business Function Support:** Support other business functions as required to meet customer requirements and business objectives.
  • **Budget Management:** Maintain and manage to departmental budget.
  • **Team Development:** Develop technical staff and manage performance and succession planning.
  • **External Funding:** Seek and obtain external funding in support of our new product initiatives.

**Tactical Objectives**

  • **Goal Setting:** Creation and management of short-, mid-, and long-term goals and objectives.
  • **Business Review:** Conduct business review meetings with key stakeholders to assess risk, review future strategies, and identify potential new product, cost-down, and improvement opportunities.
  • **Relationship Building:** Establish and maintain close and effective working relationships with other managers within BEST.
  • **Customer and Supplier Relationships:** Establish and maintain relationships with key customers, suppliers, and collaborators.

**Strategic Objectives**

  • **New Technology Development:** Development of new technologies or products to meet stakeholder expectations, primarily as measured by market share and financial measures such as gross margin and cost of quality.
  • **IP Generation:** IP generation, including patent applications.
  • **Customer Satisfaction:** Customer satisfaction that our product development path is in line with their needs, as measured by external funding and technical collaborations.
  • **Strategic Planning and Implementation:** Evidence of strategic planning and implementation.

**Qualifications**

  • **Education:** Ph.D. in materials science, physics, or a related discipline is required.
  • **Experience:** A proven record of new technology and product development with experience, including publications in peer-reviewed technical literature.
  • **Technical and Operational Management Experience:** At least 10 years of technical and/or operational management experience would be expected.
  • **Communication Skills:** Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • **Problem-Solving Skills:** Ability to distil information and data from multiple sources, to create a focus on root cause resolution of complex problems.
  • **Leadership Skills:** Facilitator skills e.g., leading cross-functional teams / problem-solving and diagnostic skills etc.
  • **Travel:** Willingness to travel globally, occasionally, and sometimes frequently as needs arise.
