Facilities Maintenance Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF). This is a part-time position, approximately 15-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday during the hours of 8:00 am-5:00 pm. However, schedule flexibility is available.

As a Facilities Maintenance Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting maintenance and general facilities operational work under the supervision of the NYSCF Facilities Director. Your primary duties will include:

  • Performing routine maintenance, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs in various areas such as carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, masonry, and electrical trades.
  • Electrical work, including installing equipment, wiring power cords, fixing appliances, and performing other related tasks.
  • Maintenance painting, including minor surface preparation.
  • Changing air and water filters, light plumbing, and other tasks as needed.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Light fabrication.
  • Coordinating facility supply stock/preparation work as needed.
  • Maintaining, adjusting, and repairing machinery and mechanical equipment according to diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturers' specifications, preventive maintenance schedules, and/or Facility Director's instructions.
  • Disassembling/assembling machines, equipment, or furniture for servicing, repair, or replacement of parts.
  • Performing general utility functions, such as hanging shelves, bulletin boards, shades, and replacement of floor or ceiling tiles, doorknobs.
  • Performing equipment monitoring of gauges, control panels, meters, and similar devices.
  • Replacing defective bulbs, sockets, switches, fuses, and receptacles.
  • Assisting and coordinating with tradespersons, as required.
  • Performing inventory and inspection duties and reporting unsafe conditions in building and equipment damages.
  • Maintaining work areas in safe and clean operating condition.

The ideal candidate will have formal trade or technology training with at least 6 months of experience in AC electrical wiring. You should be a motivated self-starter who can work independently throughout the day and have an attention to detail and quality. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are essential, as well as the ability to read, write, type, and communicate in English fluently and effectively.

We offer a competitive salary of $60,000 - $70,000 per year, depending on experience. This position is open to candidates who are willing to learn and grow new skills. The successful candidate must be able to carry tools, equipment, and material; work overhead on ladders, in cramped and crowded spaces, and occasionally outdoors in all weather conditions. Lifting 50 pounds is also required.
