Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Westbury Animal Hospital. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our veterinarians in delivering high-quality medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians with physical examinations, procedures, and surgeries
  • Provide nursing and comfort care to patients
  • Prepare patients for surgery, administer medications, and perform basic laboratory diagnostic tests
  • Record patient information, including medical history, test results, and treatment plans
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, adhering to OSHA standards and practice policies

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of experience working with animals in a patient care or animal facility
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull pets and objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch
  • Occasional exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances
  • Physical mobility and dexterity to frequently stand, walk, bend, push, twist, kneel, climb, squat, stoop, and reach overhead
