Job Summary

The Electrical Systems Specialist will be responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems at Flagler College. This includes low voltage, high voltage, commercial, and residential electrical systems. The ideal candidate will have a Master Electrician certification and be able to apply current building and electrical codes.

Responsibilities

The Electrical Systems Specialist will perform the following tasks:

  • Troubleshoot problems with electrical systems, including distribution panels, breaker panels, switchgear, motors, compressors, controls, appliances, transformers, fire alarm panels, and wiring.
  • Perform repair and replacement of electrical components when necessary.
  • Install conduit, wiring, controls, and electrical devices for new installations according to current code requirements.
  • Report any deficiencies to the Supervisor of Maintenance in a timely fashion.
  • Make timely and accurate recommendations for repair and replacement when needed.
  • Work cooperatively with the Supervisor of Maintenance to schedule repairs with outside vendors.
  • Work cooperatively with vendors to perform necessary repairs and replacements.
  • Review plans, prints, submittals, wiring diagrams, and specifications to ensure that the College receives the best products installed within current codes, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Assist in the creation and updating of consistent Design Guidelines for application during renovations and new construction.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance of electrical equipment.
  • Obtain and maintain records of repairs and warranties.


Additional Responsibilities

The Electrical Systems Specialist will also be responsible for:

  • Managing and prioritizing work order completion with thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Working cooperatively with other Facilities staff when necessary to perform any other college-related duties required by the Supervisor of Maintenance, the Superintendent of Physical Plant, and the Executive Director.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A Master Electrician certification or ability to obtain one within the hiring process.
  • Ability to apply current building and electrical codes.
  • Ability to apply sound electrical practices and display competent use of electrical tools.
  • Ability to obtain FASA/BASA certification.
  • Ability to comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform considerable physical effort, including lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds several times a day.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and to work in overhead structures as well as around and beneath machinery.
  • Willingness to wear personal protective equipment as needed and to practice safety precautions appropriately.
  • Valid state driver's license and ability to operate College truck.
  • Satisfactory work record and attendance.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.
  • Ability to comprehend, speak, and write the English language and operate a computer.
