Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Counter Sales/Backup Delivery Driver to join our team at Airgas. As a key member of our sales and delivery team, you will be responsible for selling medical, industrial, and specialty gases, welding equipment, and hard goods and tools to customers. You will also be responsible for delivering compressed gas cylinders to local and regional business customers from an Airgas branch or plant location using a company-provided straight or box truck.

Key Responsibilities
  • Solicit sales from walk-in and telephone call-in customers, assisting customers with identification of product needs and locating merchandise.
  • Accurately complete and file all required paperwork on a timely basis, documenting sales, quotes, or other information.
  • Enter sales and quote data into the computer and research information for customers using the computer system.
  • Receive payment for merchandise or services sold and enter sale into the computer, adhering to all administrative and accounting-related procedures.
  • Restock store merchandise as needed, arranging stock on shelves or racks in sales areas and keeping merchandise in order.
  • Maintain showroom cleanliness by procedures set forth by management.
  • Safely load, deliver, and unload cylinders containing compressed gases to customer locations, recording deliveries and pick-ups on a load manifest and obtaining signatures from customers for receipt purposes.
  • Establish and maintain good customer relations, listening to and helping resolve service inquiries and complaints.
  • Provide timely communication back to manager or to the customer's assigned Airgas sales associate regarding any changes or issues experienced by the customer.
  • Maintain load manifests and all required vehicle documents, ensuring they are properly completed and reconciled with truck counts and shipping documents before and after deliveries.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous product, warehouse, and/or sales-related experience and/or training (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google and/or MS Office applications.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Lives by Airgas safety programs, OSHA, and all related rules, regulations, procedures applicable to this position's responsibilities.
  • Valid Class A or B driver's license.
  • Valid Medical Examiner's Card.
  • Hazmat and Airbrake certifications (or ability to acquire certifications as a condition of employment).
  • Must have one (1) year of prior Class A or B professional driving experience within the last five (5) years and a clean driving record to include no more than two (2) convictions; OR two (2) at-fault accidents in the last 3 years; OR no more than a combination of one (1) conviction and one (1) at-fault accident in the last 3 years.
  • Must be at least 21 years or older.
