About the Job
The Fiberglass Hand Lay-up Operator will be responsible for operating hand lay-up operations to manufacture multi-layer composite tanks. This involves ensuring adequate supply of raw materials, maintaining proper mix of resin and hardener, and applying chemical veil, chop, and gel coat layers according to specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Double check equipment prior to each part manufactured
- Ensure parts are clean and free of debris
- Maintain proper thickness at all stages of part production
- Responsible for attaching top, bottom, manway, various inlets, and outlets to tank shell
- Ensure tank joint integrity, both inside and outside the tank
- Operate or tend chop gun and gel coat operations to make various parts as required
- Complete quality control and regulatory paperwork as applicable
Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, you will need to have at least 3 years of experience in fiberglass production. You should also possess skills in problem-solving, knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Educational Background:
A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Two to three years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is also acceptable.
Language Skills:
You should be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information one-on-one and to other employees is also necessary.
Mathematical Skills:
You should be able to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units' weight, measurement, volume, and distance is required.
Reasoning Ability:
You should be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardizing situations is also necessary.
