We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our team in Guildford. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and building scalable and robust systems that enable and support our free-to-play game in Unreal Engine.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will report directly to the Lead Backend Engineer and work closely with game developers, DevOps engineers, and producers to deliver high-quality backend systems.

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer who can lead and mentor junior colleagues, design and build scalable and robust systems, gather and analyze requirements together with other stakeholders, and help develop deployment infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in designing and developing microservice architectures, good understanding of RDBMS and NoSQL databases, experience with real-time communication protocols (WebSockets, gRPC, etc), and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc).

• Hands-on experience in designing and developing microservice architectures
• Kotlin proficiency, including familiarity with Spring Boot and/or its alternatives
• Good understanding of RDBMS and NoSQL databases
• Experience with real-time communication protocols (WebSockets, gRPC, etc) and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc)
• Experience in developing game backend architectures (state management, real-time player interactions, high load); and systems that support matchmaking, leaderboards, in-game economies, etc
• Independent, analytical, and a high level of ownership

We offer a competitive salary of £60,000 - £80,000 per year, depending on experience, as well as additional benefits such as:
