Job Summary

Regional One Health is seeking a skilled Radiology Technologist to join our team. As a Radiology Technologist, you will be responsible for operating radiology equipment to produce diagnostic x-rays and performing routine diagnostic procedures according to established standards and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate radiology equipment to produce diagnostic x-rays as prescribed by physicians.
  • Perform routine diagnostic procedures according to established standards and practices.
  • Review patient's medical record and physician's request prior to radiographic procedure to obtain and record identifying information required for the treatment and patient records.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills and maintain competencies required to provide care appropriate to age of the patients served within department.
  • Determine proper settings; select and prepare equipment and supplies as needed for each exam/procedure.
  • Exercise judgment in selecting and computing settings to compensate for such variances as patient size, age, gender, and tissue density.
  • Select proper film size, position equipment at proper distance and angle, and adjust cones or collimators to image a specified area.
  • Perform radiology procedures as ordered by physician, consistent with patient care policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management, infection control practices, patient safety practices and departmental activities.
  • Elicit the cooperation of patients by explaining procedure. Position and instruct patients regarding x-ray procedures. Evaluate the patient's condition and apply immobilizing devices when the patient cannot cooperate.
  • Use supportive devices such as sandbags, angle boards and binders to obtain precise position, to avoid re-injury, discomfort and pain, or intruding the sterile field.
  • Perform a variety of orthopedic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, obstetric, bone imaging, barium enemas, chest, head and neck radiographic procedures, etc. to produce x-ray images.
  • Use portable/mobile radiographic units; push or operate mechanically driven portable units and perform radiographic procedures within specialty areas such as Trauma ICU, obstetrics units and in surgery under sterile conditions when requested.
  • Prepare and assist in administering contrast agents by monitoring dosages and determining any potential allergies ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures.
  • Observe patient and equipment during procedure. Report adverse or any unusual reactions or events.
  • Process films and prepare images of x-rays for viewing following established procedures.
  • Recognize and correct technical errors to ensure a clear and accurate x-ray.
  • Practice radiation safety through appropriate use of radiation protection devices and adhering to radiation safety standards to protect patient and staff and to comply with regulatory agencies and requirements.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in performing and processing all procedures in order to capture all charges and other relevant information.
  • Operate the Radiology Information System to enter required test data and patient information, using all appropriate modules with accuracy.
  • Ensure patient information and images are correctly transmitted to PACS system.
  • Document care based on standards of care and practice and/or clinical priorities for documentation (assessment, radiology procedure, and patient's response during procedure).
  • Respond and/or participate with medical emergencies. Initiate and/or assist with CPR/BLS/ACLS as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adhere to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).
  • Confers and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction in coordinating/implementing patient care activities.
  • Prepare and maintain required records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes. Utilize patient computer systems to enter and retrieve data.
  • Participate in quality/performance improvement. Collect quality data for monitoring performance improvement and to produce the best value service.
  • Provide support to radiology and other medical and hospital staff to provide clinical assistance as needed.
  • Assist in orientation and supervision of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training.
  • Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
  • Respond to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities which includes committees, monitoring and follow-up.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel. Prepare or clean patient rooms by changing linens, stocking supplies and wiping off tables and equipment. Adhere to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and safety, environment and infection control standards.
  • Assist in care and maintenance of equipment and effective utilization of supplies. Notify supervisor of equipment malfunction.
  • Provide coverage for relief and absences. Demonstrate flexibility to work night, weekend and holiday shifts to provide continuous radiology coverage as required.
