The College of the Holy Cross is seeking a Bass Guitar Educator to become a part of the Music Department's team of instrumental and vocal educators. Instructors are engaged on an at-will basis and receive compensation of $1000 per semester for each student enrolled in 10 one-hour lessons, and $500 per semester for each student enrolled in 10 half-hour lessons. For the upcoming semester, we anticipate having one to three students for 10 hour-long lessons. The instructor will be guaranteed compensation for a minimum of three students for the initial semester. This position requires in-person instruction.

The selected candidate will be required to complete the institution's Boundary Training for lesson instructors.

This role reports directly to the Chair of the Music Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual bass guitar lessons to both music majors and non-majors as needed.
  • Depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate, there may be opportunities for additional duties, which would be compensated separately, such as participating in auditions, juries, and coaching sessions.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Master's Degree in Music Performance (mandatory)
    • Experience in teaching bass guitar to college-age students
    • Background in professional performance
    • Willingness to instruct students at all skill levels, from beginner to advanced
    • Ability to collaborate with ensemble directors to enhance student participation in ensembles
    • Proven capability to foster an inspiring and effective teaching environment
    • Flexibility to accommodate diverse learning styles of students
    • Ability to teach students enrolled in advanced music courses for full credit and a letter grade, in coordination with the Department Chair
    • Commitment to diversity and inclusion in music repertoire, including works by women and historically underrepresented groups
    • Dedication to inclusive excellence in teaching practices
