Job Overview
As a TIG Pipe Welder, you will be responsible for planning, laying out, welding, installing, testing, and repairing various types of piping and similar tubular products. This role requires adherence to plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards while collaborating with other trades as directed by supervisory personnel.
Key Responsibilities
The essential duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Adhering to company, federal, state, and local safety regulations while executing tasks.
- Maintaining regular attendance and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends.
- Reviewing layouts, blueprints, diagrams, or work orders in preparation for welding or cutting metal components.
- Executing welds to specified standards utilizing appropriate equipment and materials.
- Installing and verifying the operation of high-pressure steel pipes and fittings.
- Repairing and replacing damaged pipes; fabricating and installing metal fittings; and securing parts for welding.
- Employing hand and power tools to accurately measure, cut, assemble, weld, and install various types of piping.
- Testing installed piping systems and ensuring compliance with applicable plans and specifications.
- Setting up equipment and welding components using various welding techniques.
- Troubleshooting equipment as necessary.
- Producing high-quality welds, including water-tight penetrations across a range of materials.
- Working independently with minimal supervision.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience: A minimum of three to five years of pipe welding experience is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Candidates should possess a working knowledge of equipment, processes, and techniques related to measuring, fitting, and welding steel. X-ray pipe welding experience and the ability to weld in all positions are required.
Skills: Proficiency in reading and interpreting written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions. Ability to apply common sense in executing written and verbal directives. Familiarity with blueprints and safe operation of hand and power tools is essential. Competence in basic mathematical calculations and measuring tools is required.
Behavioral Attributes: Candidates should demonstrate integrity, ethics, adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a strong safety orientation.
Physical Requirements: The role involves frequent communication, standing, walking, and manual dexterity. Candidates must be capable of lifting and moving up to 50 pounds and must meet specific vision requirements. The ability to work at heights and in confined spaces is necessary.
Work Environment: Employees may encounter risks associated with electrical shock, moving parts, and exposure to various industrial hazards. Strict adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
