Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse II, Acute Care is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe and effective patient care through the nursing process. This role involves assessing, planning, delivering, coordinating, integrating, and evaluating nursing care tailored to patient needs. The RN plays a vital role in interdisciplinary teamwork to support patient well-being.
Key duties include:
- Collecting, analyzing, and accurately documenting relevant patient health data.
- Identifying patient problems through comprehensive assessment data analysis.
- Establishing individualized expected outcomes for patients.
- Formulating a care plan detailing interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
- Implementing and documenting interventions aligned with patient diagnoses.
- Evaluating patient progress towards established goals.
- Adhering to evidence-based practice standards.
- Supervising care provided by LPNs and support staff.
- Ensuring safety and effective use of resources in patient care management.
- Acting as charge nurse or preceptor when designated.
The RN advocates for patients, ensuring care respects their autonomy, dignity, and rights. Care is delivered in a non-judgmental and culturally sensitive manner.
Additionally, the RN is responsible for maintaining current licensure and completing required training and competency validations.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associate Degree in Nursing or Vocational/Technical Diploma in Professional Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
All newly hired RNs without a BSN are expected to enroll in a BSN program within four years of hire.
Experience:
Minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse; completion of an RN residency program may be required if experience is not relevant.
License/Certification:
Current NYS Registered Nurse license required; BLS certification must be obtained within six months.
Skills:
Demonstrated leadership, clinical skills, multi-tasking ability, attention to detail, advocacy, and adaptability.
Physical Requirements:
Medium work involving exertion of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and frequent lifting of up to 20 lbs.
Working Conditions:
Occasional exposure to noise, odors, and wet/humid environments.
