We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Youth Librarian to join our team at the Avondale Branch. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for creating, implementing, and presenting engaging programs for youth and their families. You will also be responsible for maintaining the youth collection, providing technology assistance, and serving as a liaison between the library and the community.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise the operation of the library in the absence of the Manager or Supervisor and direct the work of staff when designated
- Plan and conduct programs for youth to encourage engagement with library resources and create lifelong learners
- Serve the community and schools through outreach programming, teacher collections, and other library services
- Provide reference and reader's advisory services in person, by phone, and by email
- Maintain the youth collection and assist customers with various technologies
- Interpret the library's policies and procedures to the public in a customer-friendly manner
- Use the library's automated system to circulate materials to customers
- Participate in the location's responsibilities, including desk setup, bookdrop, delivery, shelf reading, and supply orders
- Strong knowledge of youth literature, interests, and behaviors
- Demonstrates creativity through a variety of programs and storytelling techniques
- Ability to train, direct, and supervise staff
- Understands and supports the library's mission, beliefs, culture, and structure
- Interacts with members of diverse ethnic and socio-economic communities in a respectful and professional manner
- Demonstrates on-brand customer service to internal and external customers
- Handles and responds to concerns, complaints, and difficult situations with patience and tact

- Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school
- Valid driver's license and a driving record that is acceptable to the library's insurance provider
- 1-2 years' experience working with youth is preferred
- 40 hours per week, schedule may include evenings and weekends
- Grade 7: starting salary $46,945.60-$57,512.00 annually, based on experience level
