Position Overview

The OB/GYN Laborist Role A is a vital in-house position responsible for delivering safe, high-quality, evidence-based care to obstetric patients while effectively managing hospital resources. This role includes the supervision and education of residents and medical students when applicable. The OB/GYN Laborist Role A serves as the primary provider, expected to be readily available throughout their shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure prevention of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality by adhering to and exceeding current standards of inpatient obstetric care.
  • Collaborate with the obstetric care team, which may include medical students, nursing staff, resident physicians, and advanced practice providers, to identify and address clinical concerns.
  • Work with the charge nurse to manage unit resources effectively, prioritizing labor inductions and cesarean deliveries as needed.
  • Provide on-site obstetric care for patients with no prenatal care or those whose providers are unavailable due to emergencies.
  • Facilitate the transfer of patients from outside hospitals, ensuring all relevant team members are informed of incoming transfers.
  • Lead safety huddles and debriefing sessions to enhance team communication and patient safety.
  • Offer clinical support to other OB/Gyn attendings and advanced practice providers, including assistance with obstetric emergencies and surgical procedures.
  • Supervise resident physicians in managing obstetric patients, covering triage evaluations and comprehensive patient management.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree from an accredited Medical College.
  • Licensure as a Physician (MD) or Osteopathic Physician (DO) in the State of Michigan required upon hire.
  • DEA Registration in the State of Michigan required upon hire.
