Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a seasoned geologist or hydrogeologist to join our team as a senior-level project lead. This role will involve leading complex projects related to contaminated site investigation, evaluation, and remediation.
Key Responsibilities- Lead project teams in performing or coordinating ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments
- Design, implement, and coordinate Phase II investigations, including contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor intrusion
- Interpret data and develop site conceptual models
- Develop site management strategies and response action plans (RAPs)
- Estimate costs associated with these activities
- Complete contracting associated with these activities
- Prepare technical reports
- Respond to quotes and proposals
- Bachelor's degree in geology or hydrogeology or related disciplines
- 10 or more years of relevant work experience
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
- Strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets
- A flexible working style and ability to work independently and with teams
- Willingsness to travel and adjust personal schedules to meet project needs
- Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
- Master's degree in geology or hydrogeology or related disciplines
- Registered professional geologist, as applicable, or ability to become registered within one year
- Familiarity with Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) guidance documents
- Project management and leadership experience with complex projects
- Experience conducting communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory and agency personnel
- Staff mentoring, building client relationships, and business development
This position can be based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Duluth, or Hibbing, Minnesota offices. Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
