Job Summary

The VDC Engineer is responsible for producing clear and technically accurate shop drawings based on design specifications. This role may attend coordination meetings with the Senior VDC Engineer and assist with document management as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with VDC systems (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks) to create, modify, and release drawings.
  • Coordinate with team members to design or layout detailed components and resolve design or other problems.
  • Self-check own work for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with standards.
  • Work from drawings, sketches, or scanned images, customer drawings, or government drawings or specifications.
  • Attend project meetings and provide information about the status of requested designs.
  • Develop detailed design drawings using AutoCAD/REVIT.
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related information.
  • Produce mark-up drawings for layout purposes.
  • Modify and revise designs to correct inefficiencies or to reduce production problems.
Requirements
  • Minimum one (1) year of related previous experience.
  • Proficient in VDC systems using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office products (Bluebeam, Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to understand architectural and structural drawings.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language at a minimum 12th-grade level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual.
  • Electrical background.
  • Graduate from a college or university with an Associate Degree in Computer Aided Drafting Technology (or equivalent).

  • Perform drawing and technology research.
  • Explain drawings to construction teams and engineers to provide adjustments as necessary.
  • Review completed construction drawings and cost estimates for accuracy and conformity to standards and regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment
  • This job operates in an indoor professional office or job site environment. May work outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee may be occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions while at various locations.
  • Employees will be exposed to moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones, printers, and light traffic).
  • May be requested to work overtime, nights, and weekends.

  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus, along with good eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • Requires ability to wear steel toe/composite/alloy work boots.
  • Requires the ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by location.
Travel Required
  • Travel is primarily local, although minimal out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
