Position Summary
The Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in processing outpatient test requests. Key responsibilities include:
  • Performing venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis and processing specimens for analysis and reference testing.
  • With supervision, performing waived and moderately complex testing and chain-of-custody drug collections.
  • Maintaining required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies.
  • Performing duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting the department in achieving goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.

Required Skills and Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates must have:
  • A High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended.
  • 6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting.
  • Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency.

Benefits

  • 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday (11 am - 7:30 pm).
  • Required to work a weekend rotation for every 3rd weekend.
  • Required to work rotational holidays.
  • Shift/Hours may be adjusted according to staffing and/or workload demands.
