About the Role

The Albany Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Nurse Specialist to join our team in the Operating Room at our Main Campus. As a key member of our surgical care team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and ensuring a safe and efficient operating room environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs for, and responses to, care rendered.
  • Implement physician orders, administer medications to the sterile field, and document as required by organizational policy and local/state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Apply sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
  • Direct and guide ancillary personnel and maintain standards of professional nursing.
  • Act as the patient advocate in the surgical setting.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a professional academic nursing program in which a Diploma, Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree is preferred.
  • Must hold current NYS Registered Nurse license.
  • Obtains and maintains certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), CNOR is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of previous clinical RN experience is preferred in the surgical setting.
  • Possesses knowledge of quality concepts, principles, and problem-solving tools and techniques and demonstrates ability to apply in support of departmental and patient care quality improvement.

The Albany Medical Center's Surgical Care program is growing to address the needs of our patients. We have expanded our surgical facilities and capabilities. The Operating Room at our Main Campus has 35 state-of-the-art operating suites with the most advanced robotic technology and specialty rooms for cardiac, neurology, urology, vascular, and pediatric patients.
