We are seeking a highly skilled Diesel Engine Technician to join our team at Hire Military Talent. As a Diesel Engine Technician, you will be responsible for inspecting and servicing diesel locomotives, diagnosing malfunctions, and repairing or replacing engine components.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect and Service Diesel Locomotives: Ensure that diesel locomotives are in compliance with company, federal, and industry standards.
- Diagnose Malfunctions: Identify and diagnose issues with diesel engines, air brake systems, fuel systems, and other mechanical systems.
- Repair and Replace Engine Components: Repair, replace, or rebuild diesel engine components as needed.
- Operate Equipment: Efficiently operate equipment, including measuring instruments, precision machines, hand tools, and material handling equipment.
- Communicate Technical Information: Communicate technical information, job briefing information, and job procedure recommendations with others verbally, through writing, telephone, radio, and intercom.
- Read and Interpret Information: Read and interpret information from diagrams, schematics, graphs, and charts, and input it into a computer as needed.
- Ensure Equipment Availability: Ensure that all equipment or materials are available and ready for use as needed.
- Develop Positive Working Relationships: Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers.
- Ensure Compliance with Regulations: Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
- Basic Keyboarding Skills: Possess basic keyboarding skills.
- Basic Mathematic Skills: Possess basic mathematic skills.
- Education or Work Experience: Have 4 years of education or work experience (or a combination of the two) as a mechanic repairing trucks, ships, farm equipment, airplanes, trains, automobiles, diesels, or current journeyman's mechanical card.
- Verbal and Written Communication Skills: Possess proficient verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to coworkers and supervisors.
- Valid Driver's License: Possess a valid driver's license.
- Visual Inspection Skills: Have experience making quick and accurate visual inspections at near and far distances.
- Reading and Understanding Skills: Have experience reading and understanding instructions, including operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documents.
- Aptitude Test: Candidates must pass a pre-employment Diesel Mechanic Aptitude Test.
- Physical Ability Test: Candidates must qualify on a Physical Ability Test (PAT) prior to employment, background check, and drug/alcohol testing.
- Associate-Degree in Mechanical Field: Possess an Associate-Degree in a mechanical related field.
- Certified and/or Licensed Diesel Mechanic: Be certified and/or licensed as a diesel mechanic by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).
- Formal Auto/Diesel Engine Training: Have completed a formal auto/diesel engine training program.
- Experience as Mechanic in Other Fields: Have experience as a mechanic in other fields, such as military, aviation, nuclear, or marine.
- Welding Experience: Have experience welding or a welding certificate.
- Experience Working Outdoors: Have experience working outdoors in variable weather conditions.
- Experience Working with Heavy Equipment: Have experience working with, on, and around moving heavy equipment.
