The University of California College of the Law, San Francisco is looking for individuals interested in seasonal/on-call roles as exam proctors during designated examination periods.

Multiple positions are available. Proctors play a crucial role in overseeing students during examinations, ensuring the security and integrity of the testing process.

Examinations at UC Law occur once each term. The midterm and final assessments are typically scheduled for late November to mid-December in the Fall, late April to mid-May in the Spring, and mid-August for the summer term. Each examination period lasts approximately three weeks, with the summer term being shorter. Exam schedules vary and may include morning (8 AM to afternoon) or afternoon (12:30 PM to late afternoon) shifts, Monday through Friday. Shifts can range from 4 to 8 hours, including breaks.

The starting hourly compensation is $20.22.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend mandatory training sessions prior to each examination period (compensation is provided for training). These sessions are held about a week before the exam period.
  • Follow instructions from the Registrar's Office:
  • Verify approved materials before each exam.
  • Manage the check-in process for students, confirming identity with approved photo identification.
  • Ensure the security of all examination materials during assessments.
  • Clearly communicate examination instructions to students in a professional manner.
  • Distribute, collect, and account for all examination materials.
  • Monitor students throughout the examination to maintain a secure testing environment and deter academic dishonesty.
  • Report any irregularities to the Registrar's Office.
  • Circulate quietly around the examination room to observe student conduct.
  • Track examination time and provide warnings to students as the end of the exam approaches.
  • Check all students out of the examination room at the conclusion of the exam.
  • Complete the Proctor Report after the exams.
  • Adhere to established examination policies and procedures provided by the Registrar's Office.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret written instructions and procedures.
  • Capability to stand and walk around a room periodically, navigate stairs, and access multi-level classrooms.
  • Ability to lift and carry examination materials weighing up to twenty (20) pounds or push a cart.
  • Ability to articulate clearly and project voice in front of groups.

Experience: Prior experience working with diverse populations in an academic setting is preferred. Experience in exam proctoring is a plus. Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to read clearly aloud are essential.
