Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician to join our team as an Emergency Medicine Physician - Disaster Response. This is an on-call casual position that requires the physician to respond to disasters in support of State and Federal governments' responses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide urgent and emergency care within the scope and scale of normative emergency medicine practice in the United States.
  • Coordinate medical referrals, coordinate transfers, monitor and arrange final disposition.
  • Stabilize patients, coordinate with surgeons for surgical patients, and coordinate with the CMO for admittance of patients.
  • Participate in meetings and medical committees as deemed necessary by the CMO.
  • Assist and participate in MASCAL drills and actual events.
  • Provide advice and commentary on the improved performance of medical activities within the Hati Role 2 program.
  • Telephonic on-call requirements as part of a rotation, supporting APP activities in the ER.
  • Maintain and protect patient confidentiality.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest medical knowledge and skills.
  • Provide patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients in the clinic.
  • Support the International SOS philosophy, objectives, and goals, as well as the organization's mission and vision.
  • Respect and support patient rights.
  • Promote and practice positive customer and peer relations and cost containment for the Emergency Department.
  • Foster constructive relationships as a team member within the Emergency department and with members of other departments.
  • Maintain professional conduct.
  • Assist in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.
  • Support and enforce infection control policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Familiarity with the treatment and stabilization of penetrating trauma is strongly desired.
  • Competency in performing medical procedures within the scope of Emergency Medicine practice.
  • Ability to triage and handle multiple patients simultaneously.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively, prioritize, and execute against multiple priorities.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and functional disciplines.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong PC/Microsoft Office applications background.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong team building and team-member skills.
  • Excellent data entry skills.
Experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Physician; preferably in a remote/austere site.
  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine.
  • Commitment to a proactive approach to workplace safety and a diplomatic and professional approach to patient interactions.
  • Proficient oral and written communication abilities in English.
  • Flexible and willing to work in a culturally diverse environment.
Education
  • Current and unrestricted license from any US State, District of Columbia, or US Territory to provide healthcare within the scope of practice.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
  • DEA License.
Physical Demands
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Will involve assisting in the lifting and moving of patients for litters, wheelchairs, and beds.
  • Performing CPR.
  • May require bending, stooping, and lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Exposure to tropical heat and weather conditions during the duration of deployment.
Other Special Qualifications
  • US Citizen.
  • Current State License; National Registry Emergency Technician certification.
  • Live near a major airport.
  • Be able to respond to site within 72 hours.
  • Clear a Child Neglect and Abuse Check and other background requirements.
