Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Engineer Group Lead to join our team at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO). As a key member of our Data Management and Software (DMS) software division, you will be responsible for leading the development and maintenance of our Common Astronomy Software Applications (CASA) package.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of software developers in the design, development, and testing of CASA software.
  • Oversee the development of new features and enhancements to existing software.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to ensure that software meets the needs of our users.
  • Develop and maintain software documentation and user guides.
  • Work with the RADPS program office to ensure seamless transition of development and operations from CASA to RADPS.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, physics, astronomy, or related field.
  • At least seven years of experience in software development, with at least three or more years of experience managing a software group of five or more people.
  • Experience with Agile development methods and software architecture.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a closely related field.
  • Relevant experience with radio astronomy data reduction and analysis software and procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership in complex environments and experience leading larger and geographically distributed software teams.
