About the Fellowship

The American Bar Foundation, in partnership with AccessLex Institute, invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in legal and higher education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on issues related to legal and higher education, including access, affordability, and value.
  • Participate fully in the academic life of the American Bar Foundation, engaging with faculty and other scholars in residence.
  • Develop close collegial ties with ABF faculty and other scholars, fostering a professional network of scholars.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Candidates must have received their LLM, SJD, or Ph.D. degrees within the last two years or will have completed their degree by the start of the fellowship.
  • Candidates must have a research project or interest that relates to legal or higher education, with a focus on emerging issues and trends.
  • Candidates from underrepresented minority groups and those attending schools not typically represented among law faculty are encouraged to apply.
Benefits and Support
  • An annual stipend of $65,000.
  • Benefits from the American Bar Foundation, including health insurance and retirement plans.
  • A modest research account to reimburse expenses associated with research, travel, and conferences.
Duration and Timeline

The fellowship will be awarded for up to two academic years, beginning in September.
