The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year of experience in a PCU setting and be proficient in IV start, vents, telemetry, and cpap/bipap. ACLS and BLS certifications are required. NIHSS certification is preferred.
The unit is a 48-bed med-surg unit with a high acuity level. The team lead is present on shift, and there are 2 respiratory therapists and an assistant nurse manager available for support. The unit takes ventilators for chronic trach/vent patients, and no nurse has more than one vent patient at a time.
The patient population includes COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, and patients with chest tubes, CPAP, BiPAP. Many patients have comorbidities and require telemetry monitoring. The unit has a 9-10:1 CNA-to-patient ratio.
The following resources are available on the unit: an admission/discharge nurse, assistant nurse manager, vascular access team, RRT, code team, and behavioral health team.
The unit uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR systems. Block scheduling is accommodated, and unit orientation is 24 hours. Scrubs are white or navy blue.
