The Sterile Processing Coordinator is a key member of the Baylor Scott & White Health team, responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective processing of medical instruments. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as a thorough understanding of sterilization procedures and medical instrument handling.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate Sterilization Schedules: Develop and implement sterilization schedules to meet the daily needs of the operating room.
- Manage Instrument Workload: Coordinate staff workload to ensure that instruments are available for all surgical cases, and that the needs of the next business day are met.
- Train and Mentor Staff: Provide training and guidance to technician staff, and assist with the orientation process for new employees.
- Process and Package Instruments: Complete sterilization, assemble, and package specialty instrument trays for procedures, ensuring that all instruments are clean, decontaminated, and stocked to maintain a safe patient environment.
- Troubleshoot Equipment: Identify and troubleshoot issues with departmental equipment, including sterilizers, washers, and printers, and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Maintain Instrumentation: Identify instrumentation for replacement and repair, and process accordingly, ensuring that consignment equipment is signed in and processed for use according to established department policy and procedures.
- Improve Work Processes: Identify ways to improve work processes and customer satisfaction, and recommend and implement changes to support the overall goals of the department.
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience: 2 Years of Experience in a related field
- Certifications: One of the following certifications is required: Certified Surgical Tech (CST), Certified Board Sterile Proc & Distr (CBSPD), Certified Sterile Proc/Distr Tech (CSPDT), or Certified Reg Central Service Tech (CRCST)
