Job Overview:
The Personal Care Assistant is tasked with delivering essential personal support, household management, and assistance with daily living activities that enhance the quality of life for our clients, enabling them to remain in their residences while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver services as outlined in the care plan established by the healthcare provider, adhering to state regulations.
- Basic first aid procedures
- Monitoring and recording vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration)
- Facilitating range of motion exercises
- Assisting with ambulation, transfers, and positioning using appropriate medical equipment
- Preparing meals tailored to dietary and nutritional requirements
- Addressing the unique conditions and needs of clients within the authorized scope of practice
Support clients in maintaining personal hygiene, including:
- Assistance with bathing, grooming, toileting, skin and nail care, oral hygiene, dressing, and eating
Assist with household management tasks, such as:
- Ensuring home safety and cleanliness
- Implementing infection control measures
- Conducting light housekeeping, laundry, and shopping specific to client needs
Documentation:
Thoroughly complete and coordinate all necessary documentation, including:
- Maintaining accurate records for clients and the organization after each visit
- Observing and reporting significant changes in the client's condition to the supervising nurse
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current CPR certification
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Ongoing Education:
Personal Care Assistants are required to complete a minimum of 12 hours of in-service training annually, which may occur while providing care to clients.
Additional Skills:
- Attention to detail
- Effective time management
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
- Good organizational and communication skills
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Capability to travel as needed
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting
- Ability to sit and navigate stairs
- Visual and auditory acuity
- Strong sense of smell and touch
- Ability to reposition clients and manage equipment independently
- Capacity to respond appropriately to emergency situations in various settings
Work Environment:
- Ability to function in diverse environments, which may include exposure to allergens and other conditions
- Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and infectious diseases
