Position Overview
Under general supervision, the role involves maintaining cleanliness, safety, and orderliness in designated building areas. Responsibilities include securing premises, performing specialized cleaning, and conducting periodic maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Sweep, mop, wax, and seal floors.
- Vacuum carpets and rugs; dust and polish furniture and woodwork.
- Empty and clean waste receptacles; wash windows, walls, sinks, and fountains.
- Maintain restrooms; polish metal fixtures; refill paper and soap dispensers.
- Replace light bulbs and perform minor repairs; restock supplies.
- Ensure security by turning off lights and locking doors, windows, and gates.
- Patrol areas to deter vandalism and theft.
- Arrange furniture and equipment for events and meetings.
- Assist in cleaning cafeteria and may transport goods as needed.
- During non-school periods, participate in general maintenance tasks such as painting and carpentry.
Qualifications
- Completion of the twelfth grade is required; experience in cleaning methods is desirable but not mandatory.
- Character references may be requested.
Knowledge and Skills
- Familiarity with cleaning methods, materials, and equipment for various surfaces.
- Understanding of safety practices related to cleaning operations.
Abilities
- Ability to maintain schedules and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Work independently and respond to emergencies as needed.
- Operate specialized cleaning tools and follow oral and written instructions.
- Foster cooperative relationships with colleagues and the public.
Licenses
- A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License may be required for some positions.
Physical Requirements
- Good physical condition is essential, as determined by health assessments.
- Regularly required to use hands for various tasks and frequently walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally with assistance.
Work Environment
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and varying weather conditions is common.
- Occasional exposure to wet conditions, mechanical parts, and toxic chemicals.
