Job Summary
Dogs for Better Lives seeks a skilled Canine Placement Specialist to perform duties in their assigned geographic area. The ideal candidate will travel for placement of Hearing Dogs, Autism Assistance Dogs, and Facility Dogs, conduct interviews and evaluate applicants, and provide follow-up evaluations.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct interviews, evaluate, and qualify applicants for placement with assistance dogs.
  • Teach clients how to use their Assistance Dogs' trained skills in their homes, workplaces, schools, and communities from placement through the Assistance Dog Team Certification process.
  • Provide education and information to potential clients from dog care to public access to Dogs for Better Lives process and procedures.
  • Conduct follow-up visits to client homes where client-canine teams exist, providing additional guidance and obedience training where needed to maintain client-dog team skills and/or train new tasks with re-train sessions.
  • Responsible for traveling with apprentice trainers for placement of dogs with clients as needed.

Requirements:
This is a full-time position that requires 60 - 75% travel, which may involve flying and driving day and night. The ideal candidate will have a four-year college degree or equivalent work experience, successful completion of an ADI-accredited trainer apprenticeship program, and experience working with purpose-bred and shelter dogs. Knowledge of operant conditioning techniques and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 are also required.
