Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the County of Trinity, CA team as a Road Maintenance Worker. As a key member of our road maintenance crew, you will be responsible for performing routine, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks in maintenance, repair, and construction of County roads, storm drainage systems, and related structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of trucks and road construction equipment, including light trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, rollers, loaders, and snow removal equipment.
  • Perform routine, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks in maintenance, repair, and construction of County roads, storm drainage systems, and related structures.
  • Operate various hand and power tools, including air compressors and pneumatic tools, in the performance of construction and maintenance duties.
  • Perform general maintenance and safety checks on equipment, including refueling, greasing, and checking oil, water, lights, and other vehicle components.
  • Load, transport, and unload rock, water, fill, debris, gravel, asphalt, and other materials to and from various construction sites.
  • Perform and assist in the installation of traffic working, speed control, and other signs; paint traffic guards, barricades, and raised traffic bars on pavement.
  • Clear slides; grade shoulders; clear brush; remove trees and clear accident sites; remove snow; operate spreaders to salt and sand roads; chain equipment as necessary.
  • Operate snow removal equipment as required.
  • Maintain public facilities, shop and garage areas, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday.
  • Install street barricades and cones and control traffic around work sites and special events to ensure safe conditions for the general public and County workers.
  • Provide needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records of work performed and materials and equipment used.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • One (1) year of experience as a laborer in construction or general maintenance work, including some experience in the operation of light trucks, for Road Maintenance Worker I.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the construction and maintenance of roads, including, but not limited to, heavy equipment operation, or two (2) years as a Road Maintenance Worker I in Trinity County, for Road Maintenance Worker II.
  • Three (3) years of road maintenance work and construction experience comparable to work at a level equivalent to the Trinity County Road Maintenance Worker II classification, for Road Maintenance Worker III.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record for Road Maintenance Worker I.
  • Possession of a California Class "B" driver's license with a Tank Vehicle endorsement, or ability to obtain California Class "B" driver's license with a Tank Vehicle endorsement within one (1) year of date of hire, and shall, through the duration of their employment with the County, maintain said license and endorsement, for Road Maintenance Worker II.
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted California Class "B" driver's license with Air Brake and Tank Vehicle endorsements, and shall, through the duration of their employment with the County, maintain said license and endorsements, for Road Maintenance Worker III.
