Job Title: Substitute Registered Nurse

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Substitute Registered Nurse to provide medical care and support to students in our district. As a Substitute Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for supervising medication and specialized treatment, managing and monitoring diabetic students, and maintaining health records.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise medication and specialized treatment, and dispense medication to students.
  • Manage and monitor diabetic students, which could include the administration of insulin as well as monitoring and adjusting insulin pumps.
  • Maintain health records.
  • Follow health provider treatment plans. Administer emergency meds if needed.
  • Contact Emergency services if needed.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and staff.
  • Enter Health Room visits and treatments into the online SNAP (School Nurse Administrative Program).
  • Help with screening if needed: vision, hearing, and scoliosis.
  • Coordinate health referrals with staff, student, families and community agencies.
  • Work with local community health and social service agencies to improve referral process and coordination of services for district students if needed.
  • Maintain and monitor Washington Administrative Codes (WAC) regarding current immunization standards.
Requirements:
  • Valid Washington State RN License.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Able to provide own transportation.
  • Demonstrated successful ability in dealing with medical emergencies.
  • Value the confidential nature of student information as well as HIPAA/FERPA.
  • Positive evaluations and recommendations.
  • Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  • Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  • Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
  • Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with large numbers of staff and in various buildings and levels in promoting the health services program.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop rapport with students and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop rapport and work with colleagues, such as the other school district nurses and building staff.
  • Punctual and consistent attendance when needed.

Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs.; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.
