Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water System Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the City of Gillette. As a key member of our Utilities Department, you will be responsible for participating in the repair and maintenance of our water system infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Flushes, repairs, and maintains hydrants to ensure optimal water pressure and quality.
  • Repairs and maintains valves to prevent leaks and ensure efficient water distribution.
  • Maintains and repairs water mains to prevent breaks and ensure reliable water supply.
  • Maintains service connections to ensure safe and efficient water delivery.
  • Locates water and sewer mains to facilitate maintenance and repairs.
  • Responds to and resolves customer service complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs water leaks to prevent damage and ensure water quality.
  • Operates a variety of construction equipment, including backhoes, vac-trucks, and dump trucks, to perform maintenance and repairs.
  • Installs water mains, valves, hydrants, curb stops, and meter pits to ensure efficient water distribution.
  • Backfills holes in compliance with compaction test requirements to ensure structural integrity.
  • Cleans and monitors pump stations and related equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Operates and maintains wells to ensure reliable water supply.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports to track maintenance activities and water quality.
  • Performs work in compliance with work safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Collects water samples for analysis to ensure water quality meets regulatory standards.
  • Repairs landscaping to maintain a safe and aesthetically pleasing work environment.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies to ensure prompt resolution and minimize disruptions.
  • Attends required training classes to stay up-to-date on industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED and one year of relevant water system operations or closely related experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain State of Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Level 1 Water Treatment and Level I Distribution licenses within one year of employment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain State of Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Level II Water Treatment and Level II Water Distribution licenses within two years of employment.
  • Ability to obtain a valid State of Wyoming Commercial Driver's License with airbrake and tanker endorsements within six months of hire.
  • May be required to obtain other licenses and/or certifications required to perform the functions of the position within a specified period of time.
  • May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, materials, and/or other items weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • May be exposed to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, and infectious diseases.
  • May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule.
  • May be subject to call-out and/or call-back.
