Job Description

United Way of South Central Michigan is seeking a highly skilled Community Impact Associate to join our team. As a Community Impact Associate, you will play a critical role in supporting our community-centered, strategic grantmaking activities, including community partnerships and relationship building efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion:
    • Contribute to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive organizational culture that centers people in every solution, process, and function.
    • Advance the organization's mission through equitable grantmaking with a strategic focus on expanding support to Asset-Limited Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) households and those who historically and presently experience systemic barriers to access.
    • Work across the community to ensure potential partners and grantees, with a focus on creating access for ALICE and BIPOC (black, indigenous, and all people of color) led and serving organizations, have equitable access to and influence in the investment of UWSCMI resources.
  • Community Engagement and Relationship Building:
    • Develop, strengthen, and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders across geographical areas of focus and greater UWSCMI region.
    • Serve as a staff ambassador of UWSCMI at various community meetings, conferences, committees; attend, represent, presenting on Community Impact priorities and ALICE data, and participate in special events and functions on behalf of the organization.
    • Represent UWSCMI to organizations and individuals within both geographical area of focus (Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties) and greater UWSCMI region (as assigned).
  • Grant Management and Compliance:
    • Maintain compliance with internal and external grant processes, including state and federally funded programs.
    • Work cross-functionally within the organization to ensure that strategic grantmaking outcomes are met and the work is part of a coordinated approach to accomplish UWSCMI's vision and mission.
    • Manage all stages of a grantmaking life cycle including development of the Request for Proposal, application and reporting process, providing technical assistance and support to applicants and grantees, utilization of e-CImpact grantmaking software, reviewing volunteer management, completing grant review and facilitating consensus-based decision making, and ongoing relationship building and communication with those who receive UWSCMI grants.
  • Data Management and Strategy Implementation:
    • Support data management and work collaboratively with community partners and grantees to implement strategies to address inequities, gaps, and barriers to make improvements in the systems, grant process, and support for community partners and grantees.
  • Collaboration and Support:
    • Work with cross-functional teams to support volunteer engagement, resource development and marketing and communications through access to impact stories and connections with community partners.
    • May provide supervision to interns or other temporary staff.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and ability to apply anti-oppressive and anti-racist principles in the workplace and community.
  • Familiarity with Kalamazoo and Battle Creek communities preferred.
  • Experience including or translatable to grant making, including building relationships with individuals, organizations, and community coalitions to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to engage with community members, community partners, staff, and grantees.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and Adobe Pro.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive data and information.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Reliable transportation for travel within the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Area.
  • Occasional work outside of normal business hours.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
