Position Type: Full-Time/Part-Time

Compensation: $14-16/hour

Role Purpose:

The culinary supervisor collaborates with the head chef and kitchen staff to oversee meal preparation and service. This position is accountable for delivering high-quality dining experiences, adhering to established menus, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Maintaining a pristine kitchen environment and promoting safe food handling practices are essential responsibilities. Leadership and guidance for the culinary team during shifts are also key aspects of this role, which may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess relevant experience and training in professional cooking, along with necessary certifications. It is crucial to maintain certifications in food safety and sanitation, such as ServSafe, and to have a solid understanding of dietary needs specific to the elderly. Exceptional culinary skills, mathematical proficiency for recipe adjustments, and strong organizational abilities are essential for ensuring timely meal preparation and service. Knowledge of food storage and handling guidelines is necessary to prevent contamination and spoilage. Effective leadership and motivational skills are important for fostering a productive team environment. Candidates must be at least 18 years old.

Successful candidates will pass state-mandated background checks and drug screenings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meal Preparation: Ensure all food and beverages are prepared according to menu guidelines and served at the appropriate temperature.
  • Substitutions: Offer alternative menu items when residents decline specific dishes, as directed by the head chef.
  • Documentation: Accurately complete required records regarding food temperatures and usage.
  • Food Presentation: Ensure meals are served attractively and at the correct temperatures.
  • Feedback: Monitor returned plates and communicate resident preferences to the chef.
  • Dietary Compliance: Ensure adherence to dietary orders and monitor residents' nutritional status in collaboration with relevant staff.
  • Team Supervision: Oversee and assist kitchen staff in the preparation of menu items, prioritizing the use of fresh, local ingredients.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Report any equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Resource Management: Utilize food and supplies efficiently to minimize waste.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Comply with all relevant health and safety regulations.

General Duties:

  • Act as a representative of the assisted living center.
  • Participate in safety drills and training sessions.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members across shifts.
  • Maintain a respectful and dignified approach towards all residents.
  • Observe and report any changes in residents' conditions.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and resident rights.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to stand, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
