Orthopedic Clinic Assistant

The Float/Roomer role at OrthoAlliance is a vital part of our clinical team. This position is responsible for ensuring patients feel comfortable during their visit, directing them while in the clinic, and performing initial assessments and intakes of information. This includes taking and recording patient vital signs, interviewing patients to understand the reason for their visit, and providing care following established standards and practices.
- Prepare patients for examination and treatment by observing, recording, and assessing their condition, noting reactions to drugs and treatments, obtaining vital signs, and taking patient history and accurately entering information into the electronic health record.
- Update and maintain patient files, records, post tests and examination results, formulate and update patient care plans, and other information with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency to provide a smooth and timely flow of patients through the clinic.
- Perform selected nursing duties, including assisting physicians in preparing for minor surgeries, procedures, and physicals; assisting physicians during treatment as needed; obtain specimens and administer injections or tests as ordered by physicians, arranging for additional testing as needed, and apply or remove casts, splints, and dressings as necessary.
- Explain and demonstrate home physical therapy exercises or rehabilitation techniques to patients.
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments based on physician and patient needs.
- Maintain and prepare supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization and ensuring clinic area is stocked with proper equipment at all times and ordering as necessary.
- Place a high priority on and maintain strict confidentiality in all situations.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain applicable professional affiliations and certifications as required.
- Attend and participate in required organizational meetings and committees as requested.
Completion of an accredited program in medical assisting or nursing (Associate's degree). One to two years' professional experience in a clinical setting preferred. Must possess and maintain in good standing with a certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA or CCMA) or an Indiana state Licensed Practical Nurse license (LPN). Must maintain current BLS certification.
