Job Title: Medical Records Specialist Team Lead

At Roosevelt General Hospital, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Records Specialist Team Lead to join our Health Information Management team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Medical Records Department, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of patient medical records, and maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily activities of the Medical Records Department, including the management of medical records, release of information, and HIPAA compliance.
  • Lead a team of medical records specialists to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy and completeness of patient medical records.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the hospital to ensure the quality and completeness of patient medical records.
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required to stay up-to-date on industry developments and best practices.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years' management experience in medical records or a minimum of five years' management experience.
  • General computer knowledge.
  • Previous hospital and clinic medical records experience preferred.
  • Electronic medical record knowledge.
  • Previous EHR administration experience preferred.
  • HIPAA training preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of health information management services.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information.
  • Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

  • Work is performed during regular work hours; however, may require overtime and/or weekend hours to meet deadlines.
  • Work in varying degrees of temperature (heated or air conditioned).
  • Work under extreme pressures.
  • Position requires sitting for approximately 4-6 hours per day and walking for 2 hours per day.
  • Position requires light to moderate work with 50 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry.
  • Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
