Overview:
As a CNC Machinist at Select Industries Corp, you will be tasked with the crucial responsibility of setting up and operating computer numerically controlled mills. Your role will involve executing machining operations such as boring, milling, contouring, facing, and threading components made from various materials including castings, forgings, and bar stock.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret process sheets, blueprints, and sketches to ascertain machining requirements, dimensional specifications, and operational needs;
- Modify existing programs under guidance when necessary;
- Enhance programming for process optimization and troubleshooting;
- Secure workpieces in chucks or fixtures appropriately;
- Select and install preset tooling in the specified sequence as per process documentation;
- Initiate and conduct machining operations effectively;
- Monitor numerical control displays and ensure compliance with process sheet data for dimensional accuracy, feed rates, and machining speeds;
- Adjust machine settings as needed to rectify performance issues;
- Conduct inspections on initial and subsequent pieces to ensure adherence to specifications;
- Organize materials for upcoming orders to minimize cycle and setup times;
- Pre-set tools prior to installation in the milling machine;
- Operate additional machine tools during machining cycles as required;
- Work with both metallic and non-metallic materials;
- Set up and operate CNC machines with minimal supervision using setup sheets and written instructions;
- Utilize various inspection instruments to verify work without supervision;
- Demonstrate knowledge of cutting tools and determine appropriate machine speeds and feeds;
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment;
- Understand shop routers and SPC charts through training, ensuring product acceptance via operator verification;
- Complete other assigned tasks as necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a minimum of three years of machine shop experience and five years of CNC experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates should possess the ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with proficiency in mathematical concepts relevant to machining.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Lean Training, 5S Training, and familiarity with network environments is advantageous. Proficiency with Hurco machines and controls (both conversational and G-code) is preferred, as well as experience in selecting cutting tools, insert tools, and understanding speeds and feeds.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this role require regular communication and the ability to sit, stand, walk, and manipulate tools and controls. Exposure to the production floor is expected, with potential risks associated with moving mechanical parts and airborne particles. Adherence to company lifting limitations is mandatory, with the ability to lift and move varying weights as specified.
