Job DescriptionThe Class 4 Monitor-Only Stationary Engineer is responsible for monitoring and overseeing the operation of mechanical and electrical equipment within a facility, ensuring that all systems operate safely and efficiently. This position involves maintaining continuous surveillance over heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, and other mechanical systems, identifying potential issues, and escalating them to the appropriate personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and observe the operation of HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, pumps, compressors, and other mechanical and electrical equipment to ensure they operate within set parameters.
- Respond to alarms, alerts, or abnormal conditions by notifying appropriate maintenance personnel or supervisors.
- Record and log equipment performance data such as temperature, pressure, and operating conditions.
- Review and ensure compliance with safety protocols and equipment regulations.
- Perform scheduled system checks and inspections, identifying any potential equipment failures or system inefficiencies.
- Communicate effectively with maintenance and engineering teams about potential equipment issues.
- Assist in coordinating the shutdown and startup of equipment as needed.
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation and logs of system conditions and any actions taken.
- Follow emergency procedures during power failures, equipment malfunctions, or other incidents, ensuring the safety of the facility and its occupants.
- Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Provide periodic reports on equipment performance and operational status to supervisors.
- Class 4 Stationary Engineer's license or certification.
- Prior experience in monitoring HVAC, boiler, chiller, or related mechanical systems in a commercial, industrial, or institutional environment.
- Basic understanding of the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly to alarms and abnormal conditions.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in using monitoring software and control systems.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures for operating mechanical equipment.
