Position Overview:
This role is part of the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers reimbursement for student loan payments.

Eligibility requirements must be met in accordance with VHA policy, and applications should be submitted within four months of appointment.

Approval and award amounts (up to $200,000) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the application.


Key Responsibilities:
Major duties include but are not limited to:

Conducting a range of routine to advanced CT examinations, including scans of various body parts such as the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and extremities, along with vascular, musculoskeletal, and cardiac imaging.

Performing routine, urgent, emergent, or research studies and post-processing of images. Ensuring images are accurately labeled with patient demographics and confirming archiving on PACS. Following contrast administration policies. Assisting with CT-guided interventional procedures as needed, including biopsies, drains, aspirations, and injections. Demonstrating a solid understanding of cross-sectional human anatomy and medical terminology.

Proficient in imaging algorithms, technical factor selection, adjustments, and post-processing for each scanner type. Identifying patients using two (2) identifiers, preparing them for exams, explaining procedures, and assisting with patient mobility to and from the exam table. Positioning patients and configuring imaging equipment accordingly.

Evaluating critical and emergent procedures, adjusting priorities as necessary. Performing venipuncture with appropriate catheter selection for contrast administration. Maintaining proficiency with power injectors and identifying treatment for extravasation of IV contrast. Recognizing allergic reactions to intravenous contrast and initiating appropriate responses. Conducting post-processing reconstructions when requested or as part of standard procedures. Keeping up with yearly competencies, including CT protocol optimization, radiation safety, and Image Wisely training. Participating in the training of new staff in accordance with established procedures.

As required, performing a variety of routine diagnostic radiographic procedures with either stationary or portable x-ray equipment, producing high-quality images while ensuring proper radiation safety and correct annotation.

Striving to provide high-quality images while minimizing patient exposure and reducing costs.

Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday; 4:00 PM - 12:00 AM, with Rotating Call and Rotating Holidays.

Qualifications:
Basic Requirements:
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.

(Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates.)

English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).

Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments involving computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable.

Advanced certification indicates the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty.

Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or other recognized accrediting agencies.

Computed Tomography (CT): This specialty requires specific knowledge of cross-sectional human anatomy and its application in spiral and/or multi-slice computer tomography, including 3-D reconstruction scans.


Physical Requirements:
The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, including long periods of standing, walking, and sitting. It may involve frequent bending, twisting, lifting, positioning patients, and carrying moderately heavy objects.
